This painting was born during two wildfires in the Umpqua National Forest while I was living in Toketee Oregon. The days and nights were just one big adventure, being cut off from the nearest town, never knowing if it was going to jump closer, the scent of smoke permeating everything, even sleep. The sky was an odd shade, and the sunsets like no other, just a dull screen maybe, a light fog in black instead of white when it first started.
As the painting progressed it felt colder than the moment, more like the first blast of cold that attacks around Halloween each year, the first day you need a coat instead of a light sweater with going outside.
